Water Conservation

As part of the Colorado River Basin, water conservation is a crucial responsibility at Ventana Canyon. We have taken proactive steps to ensure responsible water management across our property:

  • Irrigation System Overhaul:
    • We began a multi-phase irrigation system replacement to maximize efficiency and reduce water consumption.
    • In 2023 and 2024, we installed a new Toro Links Network VP irrigation system on the Canyon Course, a $7 million project. This included:
      • New HDPE piping, wiring, satellite controllers, and irrigation heads
      • 68 satellite controllers and approximately 6,000 irrigation heads
      • Individual head control on the Canyon Course, allowing precise water management for specific areas.
    • The Mountain Course irrigation renovation is scheduled for 2028 as part of our long-term sustainability efforts.
    • The system can be controlled remotely and adjusted for specific course areas via central computers or satellite controllers. This allows us to optimize irrigation based on weather conditions, immediately shutting off watering when needed.
  • Use of Reclaimed Water: We utilize reclaimed water on both of our our golf courses, significantly reducing our reliance on freshwater sources.
  • Native Plant Integration: With support from the Fairways Foundation, we replaced approximately 1000 square feet of turf around the tennis courts with a drought-resistant native cactus garden.
  • Dining Water Policy: To reduce unnecessary water usage, servers in our dining venues provide water only upon request.
  • Laundry equipment: Over the past 5 years we have replaced 3 washing machines which use 20% less water per load.
